The Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP) is a language proficiency test designed to assess the English language skills of individuals aspiring to immigrate to Canada or seeking Canadian citizenship. Developed by Paragon Testing Enterprises, CELPIP evaluates candidates' abilities in listening, reading, writing, and speaking, with a specific focus on real-life communication skills.
Test Format
CELPIP offers two main versions - CELPIP General and CELPIP General LS (Listening and Speaking). Here is an overview of the two versions:
CELPIP General:
Listening (47-55 minutes):
- Part 1: Listening to Problem Solving
- Part 2: Listening to a Daily Life Conversation
- Part 3: Listening for Information
Reading (55-60 minutes):
- Part 1: Reading Correspondence
- Part 2: Reading to Apply a Diagram
- Part 3: Reading for Information
Writing (53-60 minutes):

- Part 2: Responding to a Survey Question
Speaking (15-20 minutes):

Scoring
CELPIP provides scores on a scale from 1 to 12 for each language skill (listening, reading, writing, and speaking). The overall CELPIP General score is an average of the individual skill scores. The CELPIP General LS score is based on the listening and speaking sections.
Preparation
CELPIP provides official study materials, including practice tests and guides, to help candidates prepare for the exam. Additionally, various third-party resources and preparation courses are available to support individuals in achieving their desired scores.
